Talent Strategy Checklist

Do I know what behaviours and core skills will drive high performance in the company?
Every employee is clear on their role and has an up to date job description?
Do I have clear branding and a value proposition that is compelling for potential employees?
The company selects for candidates that will fit with the culture as well as those who will be capable in the role?
Does the company have a robust induction process that all team leaders are aware of?
New starters given clear goals that highlight their priorities during probation
Are there clear reporting lines that are adhered to?
There is a fair process for identifying performance and potential of employees in place
Does talent mapping take place annually that leaders use to determine development conversations and activities?
"A" Players are given priority to stretch assignments and promotions
Are “C” Players identified and dealt with promptly, being reassigned if necessary?
All employees have KPI’s, goals and a personal development plan
Does the company invest in appropriate training, coaching and mentoring activities to support employee development?
The company monitors employee engagement regularly
Is the company seen to be using employee feedback to make appropriate changes to help them to be productive and happy?
Employees aware of the total reward they receive from the company
Are leavers are given the opportunity to feedback on the company and their affairs are tied up correctly so that they leave on good terms?

For Consideration

Of the questions overleaf that you answered “no’ to, which one, if you made the necessary changes to answer “yes”, would make the most difference to your people’s productivity?

Out of the questions you answered “maybe” to, consider what you need to do to be able to answer “yes”

What can you do tomorrow to get started making these changes?

How much more productive would your workforce be if you made some or all of these changes? These changes cost little and positively impact your bottom line.
